Our Exciting Day

Dakota here. Georgia and I had an exciting Sunday afternoon. Mom and dad decided that because it was such a nice day, and we have had such a boring weekend, they would take us for a long walk. We went to a place called Flagstaff. It was a steep climb up, but there were great views of our city below.

It was Georgia's first long walk out in the wilderness, and boy was she excited. She was pulling so hard on her leash that she was panting and wheezing. Towards the end she got a bit overheated and kept wanting to sit in the shade and have a rest. Mom and dad took us to a little pond where we could cool off. I looooove swimming (that's the lab in me), and I didn't want to get out. Georgia was a bit scared and didn't want to go in too far. But once summer is here, she'll learn to swim and love the water like I do. After our walk, we went to the dog park and ran around like headless chickens with a German shorthaired pointer named Milo.

Tonight we're a couple of pooped puppies. I have stretched out on mom and dad's bed for a rest.

Georgia has collapsed in a snoozy coma in the hallway (her usual spot). She has no dignity, unlike yours truly!

Memory Lane

Dakota here. Mom's laptop had a meltdown, so she can't use any of our recent photos for our blog. She had some photos of me on her old computer, so today's blog with be a trip down Dakota Memory Lane.

Here I am with my brothers and sisters at four weeks. I am the cute one in the centre (yeah, I know, they're all cute).

Here's a close-up of me at the same time.

Here I am at just two weeks when my new mom and dad came to pick out a huskador.

Here I am at eight weeks on the ride to my new home. The trip was about five hours, and I spent it at my new mom's feet, crying for my old family.

I quickly adjusted to life in my new home. I slept in a crate until I was nearly a year old. I didn't really like it, and mom and dad were glad when I didn't need it any more.

Here I am chewing on my puppy nylabone. Notice those little razor puppy teeth--mom and dad are glad they're long gone!

Here I am sleeping--not a common sight when I was a puppy.

Here I am, a little older, with my favourite treat. The bad cousins introduced me to these delicacies.

Here I am with my favourite toy, a squeaky, squishy yellow ball. They're hard to find at the pet store, and I destroy them too quickly.

And finally, here I am having a snooze in the kitty's chair. I was so excited the first time I got to sit in it--so forbidden!

The Flap

Dakota here. Living with Georgia, I see some pretty strange stuff at times. This isn't so strange:

But then...

Yes, folks, that's right. Georgia manages to contort all 27 kg (60 lbs) of herself through the CAT flap.

My Boyfriend

Dakota here. In some of our previous posts, we introduced you to our "bad cousins" Storm and Wolf. I don't know if I mentioned it before, but Wolf is my boyfriend. When I visit, he follows me everywhere and shows me far too much affection. We're very different--he's a fancy Belgian Shepherd showdog who likes to prance, and I'm a crossbreed sleddog who likes to pull. So he's an uptown boy and I'm a downtown girl, but I guess opposites attract. Here I am dreaming about him.

He had a show on the weekend and did really well. Look at all the ribbons he won!

He even won some other stuff. Will he share one of his cups with me? Maybe the one with flowers?

Good Day, Bad Day

Hi everyone, the girls here. Yesterday was one of those days--a good day for Dakota and a bad day for Georgia. First the good day.

It was Dakota's last race of the season, a just-for-fun club race called the Merino. Dakota was so excited she wouldn't hold still for a photo. We were looking forward to meeting up with some of our friends from down south, but they were snowed in. We had a very cold day, but no snow on the ground.

Unfortunately, Dakota was the first one to start, so she didn't have any other dogs to chase and motivate her. Here's the big finish. Dakota was fifth--not bad for a dog that is half  "Slowberian"!

She was very pleased with herself at the end. What a goofball. She had a great day.

Here are the "bad cousins" Storm and Wolf at the finish. They took second for two-dog scooter.

And now for Gerogia's bad day. The vet removed her stitches from her spaying, and a couple hours later the incision reopened. They had to staple her wound, and she has to wait another 10 days for it to heal. She was not a very happy pupperoo. WARNING--icky stapled belly photo below (you were warned!)

We're looking forward to a dry Spring, a healed puppy and lots of fun running around.
